To execute the Shackel, you and your wingman should be in combat spread. Distance from each other should be no further than a few hundred meters. When the leads gives the "SHACKEL" command, execute an agressive turn towards your wingman. (About 40-60 degrees off original heading) The lead should have all ready designated who will be High-boy, and Low-boy. *Ask Charles and Abs what happens if you don't At the point you cross each other make a count to two i.e, One potatato, two. Then resume back to the orinal heading. During this coordinated manuever, you can be setting up for several things depending on the senerio you're in. 1. Head to head, you'll be driving the bogey nuts on deciding who to go after, therfore exposing his flank to one of you. 2. Bogey in trail... It's daughnting to the bad guy to see two planes criss-cross in front of him and come back right in his face with little or no time to decide what to do. Other tactics will take place after this manuever to set up the kill. 3. This is a huge opportunity for the two wingmen to look back and clear each others 6 either on their way to a dogfight, or right after dis-engaging from one to make sure no one is in trail. *The XO got to see this demonstrated first hand with devastating effect on the bogeys. The Shackel is a basic manuever that is a NECCESSITY for all members to learn, coordinate, and execute effectively. S! \/

Using the Shackel after an enemie's supprise attack.
You and your wingmen are cruisin' RTB when out of nowhere a bogie closes very quickly on you possiotion. You hear that Uber engine gerglein' behind you just in time. The lead would call for an immediate shackel, with another call to Shackel right back into each other. The Bogie is going to have to commit to one of you, therefore, leaving his flank exposed to either you or your wingman. This tactic is where the Shackel originated from. It was a big success with Wilcats on aggressive Zeke's.
It's called: The Thatch Weave

... and if it's 2v1 and your the one shackeled? My guess would be to extend a bit and either run or grab and re-engage the hi boy first?

If it's 2 v 1, and you're the one outnumbered, pitch over and run while they're in the manuever. Theirs nothing else you can do unless the two pilots you're against really suck! ;D
